A heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful families who joined us for our annual Spring Festival on Saturday, May 31st! Thanks to your incredible support, we raised approximately $1,700 to help fund student activities and programs for the upcoming school year.

Counseling in Schools and the YMCA hosted a lively Community Forum featuring fun games, great food, and a chance for parents to share feedback with the school. The event also had chorus and bucket drumming performances by 2nd and 3rd graders who participated in the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music’s residency.

PS 124’s annual Field Day was held at Prospect Park, where students in grades K–5 participated in a variety of games and activities. The event ended with a picnic enjoyed by students and their families.

The 2nd grade has been working on a fish unit creating drawings, cardboard and wired sculptures inspired by fish and the ocean. As the final project for this unit, the students created gyotaku - Japanese Fish Prints using rubber fish.

The 2nd grade spent the day at the museum, learning about movement and sounds.

On December 19th & 20th, PS 124’s gym came alive with the sounds of music, laughter, and applause during our annual Winter Concert. Coordinated by our Music Teacher, Mr. Wettstein, the event showcased musical performances by each grade to celebrate the holiday season.

Hosted by Counseling in Schools, over 30 families came out for a night of holiday celebrations including gingerbread house decorating, arts & crafts, and a community meal.

PS 124 3rd graders took a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where they received a guided tour of several exhibits and engaged in drawing activities.

The PS 124 Debate Team recently joined other schools across Brooklyn and the Bronx for a trip to the Bronx Zoo! Organized by the NYC Urban Debate League (NYCUDL), team members explored the zoo to conduct research for their first tournament topic that will debate the harms and benefits of zoos. PS 124's team includes students from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes and is led by Ms. Peña and Ms. Furman. Come cheer on all District 15 teams on January 8th at PS 456!

The PTA hosted the annual PS 124 NYC Marathon Cheering Party on Sunday, November 3rd! Families came out to sell coffee, baked goods, and of course, our famous cow bells! The event raised $1,600 to support engagement activities. Thank you to No Filter Coffee and Dunkin’ Donuts for their generous support.

Staff and students dressed in their spookiest costumes for the school’s annual Costume Parade and party in the school yard.

Our 1st-5th graders had an exciting adventure at Green Meadow Farms in Brooklyn! They enjoyed the farm playground, picked pumpkins, and met all the farm animals.

Come celebrate the start of the new school year and Hispanic Heritage Month in the school yard! We’ll have bounce houses, games, latin dance class, food, and more!

The clothing swap will happen in the school yard on Saturday, September 14th from 9am-12pm. Volunteers needed to sort. Only in season FALL donations accepted at this time.

Two 5th graders were selected to present the 5th grade class’s project at the D15 PBL Showcase in March 2024. The project discussed NYC’s rodent problem.

On January 19, 2024 PS 124’s Debate Team participated in the inaugural District 15 Debate Tournament. Our team debated on the topic of year-round schools against 7 other District 15 elementary schools. Two of our team members scored within the top 25 (out of 100): Cassidy Judd and Marlee Prows. Huge congratulations to our Debate Team on their due diligence in crafting their speeches. They all worked out practicing their delivery, asking questions, and providing rebuttals. The next Debate Tournament will be on May 2, 2024 on the topic of Outer Space Exploration.

January 11th was the Day of Service at City Harvest. Our 5th Grade Student Council went to help pack apples for more than 3,000 households!

The CIS team hosted PS 124’s International Potluck in November 2023. Families were invited to bring a cultural dish to share and to enjoy an evening of fun with other families, staff, and teachers.

PS 124 participated in the annual Brooklyn PTA Fun Run hosted by NYC City Councilwoman, Shahana Hanif. Familes and staff showed up and showed off their PS 124 pride!

PS 124 brought back its Back to School Carnival this year! Staffed by teachers, school staff, & parent volunteers, families enjoyed carnival games, face painting, bounce houses, and more!
