Cool Culture

Cool Culture is a citywide cultural access program that PS 124 is proud to participate in for the 2023-2024 school year. Unique in New York City and the nation, as a thoughtful, organically developed, innovative program that provides families within historically marginalized communities with free, unlimited admission to a critical mass of cultural institutions in their city of residence. Through these collaborations, PS 124 is proud to collaborate with Cool Culture, who believes in harnessing art and culture to build awareness, inspire activism and propel social change. Family passes will be shared with all students in 3K, 4K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade classrooms.

CHiPS

For over 50 years, CHiPS (Community Help in Park Slope) has worked to eliminate food insecurity in New York City. In late 2023, CHiPS launched a new program: a mobile food pantry van that brings fresh produce and shelf-stable pantry items to the community.  PS 124 was the program's first community partner, and you can find the CHiPS mobile pantry van outside the school every Wednesday from 1:30-3 p.m. CHiPS also continues to operate its longtime soup kitchen and food pantry at its headquarters six days a week (200 Fourth Ave., at Sackett St.).

Mutual Aid

The PS 124 Mutual Aid group does its best to ensure the families within our community have everything they need, and gives those with something to share a space to do so. This group is separate from the PTA, although many people participate in both. It also works closely with other community organizations.

  • How to get involved: Reach out to our email, D15mutualaid@gmail.com, to request access to our WhatsApp group where you can share and support community needs, request support, and volunteer to help at swaps and other events.

  • Events: Keep an eye on the calendar for clothing swaps, fresh produce giveaways, and diaper distributions.

  • Give what you can and get what you need: You may notice people asking for help to support specific individuals by requesting Venmo donations or gofundme initiatives, as well as specific items or connections to other resources. This is common practice. Ask for what you need and give what you can.
